Fire and ambulance dispatches recorded by the newspaper:

JAN. 3

9:10 a.m. — A 71-year-old man with back and leg pain was taken from 330th Rd. between Chisholm Trail and Diamond Rds. to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Tampa ambulance. A first responder from Durham also was dispatched.

1:12 p.m. — Two sheriff’s deputies and Hillsboro ambulance were dispatched to the 200 block of N. Vernon St. in Lehigh to check on a woman who reportedly had overdosed on muscle relaxants then vomited them up. The ambulance waited until deputies arrived from Peabody and Marion and did not enter the residence until 1:37 p.m. The woman declined transportation to a hospital.

JAN. 4

3:39 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance took a 50-year-old woman with stomach issues to Newton Medical Center from the 200 block of S. Summit St. in Goessel. A first responder from Goessel also was called.

4:14 a.m. — With only one Florence EMT answering a page, Peabody ambulance was dispatched along with the one EMT from Florence to Xavier Rd. between 80th and 90th Rds. for an elderly man who was sweaty and not felling good. He was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

10:08 a.m. — Marion ambulance transported a patient from St. Luke to Newton Med.

3:04 p.m. — Firefighters from Goessel and Moundridge were dispatched as first responders to a McPherson County address where a patient was experiencing cardiac-like symptoms.

5:36 p.m. — A 48-year-old man who had been sick for four days and was having trouble breathing was taken by Marion ambulance from the 400 block of S. 4th St. to St. Luke.

8:14 p.m. — A man who had fallen, broken a window, and was dehydrated was transported by Peabody ambulance from the 700 block of N. Olive St. to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

8:56 p.m. — Marion ambulance reported that it was en route to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado for an undisclosed reason. It returned to Marion at 11:41 p.m.

9:06 p.m. — Tampa ambulance and an EMT in a private vehicle were sent to an apartment in the 400 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro for a 72-year-old woman with chest pains. No transportation was provided.

THURSDAY

5:30 a.m. — A woman hallucinating in the 200 block of N. 1st St. was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke. Marion police and a sheriff’s deputy also responded.

11:13 a.m. — An 88-year-old woman who fell in a restroom at Tangles hair salon, 106 S. Main St., Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. A Hillsboro firefighter who overheard the call also responded, arriving 10 minutes before the ambulance.

1:18 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Larned State Hospital. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:21 p.m.

FRIDAY

5:50 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

11:30 p.m. — A cold and clammy woman with breathing difficulties in the 600 block of S. Roosevelt St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

1:03 a.m. — A 95-year-old man having difficulty with a catheter was taken from Parkside Apartments to HCH by Marion ambulance.

2:24 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to take a patient from an earlier run back home. Marion police also were contacted, but no transportation was provided. The patient reportedly walked home.

4:59 a.m. — Marion ambulance was sent to Hilltop Manor for a resident who fell, hit her head and was bleeding, but the patient did not want to be taken to a hospital.

4:38 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Via Christi Hospital, Wichita, returning at 7: 28 p.m.

6:32 p.m. — With Marion ambulance out of the county, Peabody ambulance was sent to Marion Assisted Living Center for a patient who had run out of medication provided after a fall two days earlier. Dispatchers paged for a Marion first responder but received no answer. When the patient learned that the ambulance was coming from Peabody, she reportedly told dispatchers to disregard the call and hung up. Dispatchers called back and were told a nurse was en route with medication. Peabody ambulance turned around at 6:43 p.m. and returned to Peabody.

6:33 p.m. — With no ambulance available in Hillsboro and both Marion and Peabody ambulances already on other calls, Tampa ambulance was sent to Tabor College gymnasium after a security officer reported a stroke patient was suffering repeated seizures and wanted to be taken to St. Luke. A Hillsboro first responder arrived at 6:44 p.m. and reported that the patient had normal vital signs and needed only to be checked. Tampa ambulance arrived at 7:01 p.m. and took the patient to St. Luke, arriving at 7:39 p.m. The ambulance was back in Tampa at 8:58 p.m.

12:44 p.m. — Nathan Parson, 29, Hutchinson, died when his 1990 Geo slid under a railroad crossing arm and was struck by a Union Pacific train. A Durham first responder arrived within three minutes and reported one person appeared to be deceased. Tampa ambulance arrived a short time later. Deputy coroner JoAnn Knak pronounced Parson dead at the scene.

1:23 p.m. — Marion firefighters quickly controlled a brush fire that had reignited and was out of control at 230th and Quail Creek Rds. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 1:46 p.m., and left at 2:30 p.m.

6:03 p.m. — A 32-year-old woman who suffered a seizure in the 300 block of Locust St in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

MONDAY

3:11 p.m. — A report of a 68-year-old woman with a bloody nose sent Peabody ambulance to the 100 block of W. 6th St. in Florence after dispatchers received no reply to a page for Florence ambulance. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital. Peabody ambulance spent just more than an hour on the call.

5:01 p.m. — A man who fell in the 200 block of Walnut St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the patient.

5:28 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters battled a grass fire at 210th and Indigo Rds. for nearly two hours.
