DISPATCHES

These broadcasts regarding fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

DEC. 19

5:14 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance transferred a patient from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Newton Medical Center.

7:32 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke Hospital to Via Christi - St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

9:47 p.m. — A woman who fell at an apartment in the 1500 block of E. Main St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance, which handled the call because Marion ambulance had not yet returned from Wichita.

11:39 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance lifted but did not transport a person who was stuck on a toilet at a residence near 240th and Kanza Rds.

DEC. 20

6:40 a.m. — A Parkside Homes resident with lower abdominal pain appeared to have been taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Transmissions were partially garbled.

8:37 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance, which had gone to Marion for supplies, was dispatched a second time to the residence near 240th and Kanza Rds. that it had visited nine hours earlier. This time, a medical alarm indicated a 71-year-old woman had slid out of a chair. Nine minutes after the call, someone at the residence canceled the request for assistance.

11:20 a.m. — A woman who fell out of a chair at a residence near Main and Cincinnati Sts. in Burns was assisted by a Burns first responder. Peabody ambulance, which also had been dispatched, was told to disregard the call at 11:26 a.m.

10:04 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke to help lift a patient.

THURSDAY

4:46 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance helped lift but did not transport an 83-year-old woman who fell at Bethesda Home in Goessel. Goessel first responders also were paged but did not respond.

5:58 a.m. — Just two minutes after returning to quarters, Hillsboro ambulance was sent back to Bethesda Home for a different patient, a 99-year-old woman who had fallen from a chair and, because of medication she was taking, had to be transferred to Newton Medical.

2:32 p.m. — A woman who fell outside a residence in the 400 block of N. Cedar St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

3:54 p.m. — Peabody firefighters checked the spread of flames from burning manure piles along Remington Rd. between 30th and 40th Rds.

11:29 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Newton Medical.

FRIDAY

2:05 a.m. — Peabody ambulance checked on but did not transport a 62-year-old man with difficulty breathing in the 300 block of N. Olive St.

8:48 a.m. — A woman unable to walk was taken from the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. A Florence first responder who overheard the dispatch assisted.

11:54 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a cardiac patient from St. Luke to Newton Medical.

12:26 p.m. — Firefighters from Peabody, Florence, and Burns spent two hours battling a house fire in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in Peabody. Peabody ambulance also responded. Firefighters from Peabody remained on the scene for more than five hours.

SATURDAY

1:13 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance investigated but did not transport an intoxicated person who was found lying on the ground in the 600 block of S. Washington St.

5:56 a.m. — A man complaining of stomach pain in the 200 block of S. Fuller St. in Goessel was taken to Newton Medical by Hillsboro ambulance. First responders from Goessel did not answer repeated pages.

11:36 a.m. — A 50-year-old man who was having difficulty with a catheter and running a fever was taken by Florence ambulance to HCH from the 200 block of Grandview St. in Florence. The call initially went to Marion ambulance, with Florence ambulance as a first-response unit. However, two Florence EMTs responded.

1:52 p.m. — A Bethesda Home resident who fell and cut her head was taken to Newton Medical by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:35 p.m. — A woman with a history of intestinal rupture was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance from a farmhouse on Sunflower Rd. between 330th and 340th Rds. Both Marion ambulance, 15 miles away, and Tampa ambulance, 7½ miles away, were dispatched. Tampa ambulance arrived first, 19 minutes after the initial call. The county EMS director and an additional Tampa-area EMT also were involved with the call.

SUNDAY

1:26 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Newton Medical.

3:40 a.m. — A Bethesda Home resident will a depressed rate of respiration, which EMTs categorized as life-threatening, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical. Despite repeated pages, no first responders from Goessel answered the call.

6:48 a.m. — Marion ambulance and firefighters responded to what turned out to be a non-injury, one-vehicle rollover on US-56 east of Eisenhower Dr. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour.

9:30 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman with chills in the 200 block of S. Madison St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:37 a.m. — Marion ambulance helped but did not transport a reportedly uninjured woman who fell in the 300 block of N. 1st St.

3:32 p.m. — A possible stroke victim was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical from a home on K-15 north of 150th Rd. Goessel first-responders assisted with the call.

MONDAY

9:11 a.m. — A woman who fell and possibly broke her arm in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9:24 a.m. — A 69-year-old man who fell at Westview Manor and possibly was suffering from dehydration was taken to Newton Medical by Peabody ambulance.

9:46 p.m. — With Peabody ambulance en route to Newton, Florence ambulance responded to a call about a woman who fell and gashed her head in the 300 block of E. 3rd St. in Peabody. The patient declined to be transported to a hospital.

11:58 p.m. — A drowsy and weak 95-year-old Parkside Homes resident with low blood pressure was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:27 p.m. — A small fire near mailboxes northwest of US-56 and Jade Rd. was extinguished within 10 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.
