Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

FEB. 20

10:12 a.m. — A St. Luke Hospital patient with a cardiac monitor and an intravenous drip was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

FEB. 21

6:50 a.m. — A woman having trouble breathing at Indian Guide Terrace apartments was examined by Peabody ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:06 a.m. — A motorist trapped in one-vehicle accident on 150th Rd. near Kanza Rd. was extricated by Hillsboro rescue squad and checked by Hillsboro ambulance but was not taken to a hospital.

1:55 p.m. — A motorist injured in a one-vehicle rollover on Indigo Rd. at the Marion/Harvey County line was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Peabody ambulance. Peabody firefighters also responded to the accident.

5:50 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to the trauma unit of Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

THURSDAY

10:41 a.m. — An 85-year-old man with severe back pain was taken by Peabody ambulance from a residence near 59th and Newell Rds. The ambulance’s destination was garbled.

3:31 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

4:08 p.m. — A teenager threatening herself and her mother with a knife at a farmhouse near 250th and Kanza Rds. was disarmed by sheriff’s deputies then checked for minor cuts by Hillsboro ambulance. After the mother declined to have the ambulance take the daughter to a hospital, the girl was arrested and held for juvenile authorities.

9:03 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

4:52 a.m. — A woman who had been injured in a fall slid her car off the road near Marion and Wheat Sts. in Goessel while trying to drive herself to a hospital. Hillsboro ambulance took her to HCH. Goessel first responders also were paged but did not answer. Goessel firefighters were paged to help lift the woman but were delayed by slick roads and were told before they reached the scene that they were not needed.

10:08 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman who vomited and was having trouble swallowing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med from the 200 block of E. Commercial St. in Goessel. First responders from Goessel assisted.

SATURDAY

10:08 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to McPherson Hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:12 a.m. — A 32-year-old cancer patient with pain in her side was transported, per her physician’s orders, from the 300 block of Lincoln St. in Tampa to Salina Regional Medical Center by Tampa ambulance.

SUNDAY

8:03 a.m. — A man having trouble breathing in the 200 block of N. Walnut St. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9:39 a.m. — A 60-year-old man with a rapid heartbeat, chest pain, tremors, and weakness was taken to HCH from the 700 block of S. Washington St. by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance volunteered to assist with the call.

1:44 p.m. — Marion ambulance completed transferring a patient to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The origin of the call was not captured on newspaper monitoring equipment.

6:27 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

11:38 a.m. — A 57-year-old man with chest pains was taken from the 400 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

12:09 p.m. — A 81-year-old man who had been released from a hospital on Saturday and was not eating and could not get out of a chair was taken to St. Luke from the 700 block of S. Roosevelt St. by Marion ambulance.

1:46 p.m. — Peabody firefighters spent about two hours helping Harvey County firefighters battle a grass fire two miles south and three miles west of Peabody.

2:37 p.m. — A burning backhoe and grass fire at 240th and Bluestem Rds. was quickly extinguished by Marion firefighters.

3:22 p.m. — After a Hillsboro firefighter noticed an unattended pasture fire at 120th and Goldenrod Rds., Goessel firefighters were called to extinguish it.

4:13 p.m. — Two motorists who may have suffered minor injuries in a two-car accident at 210th and Alamo Rd. were checked by Hillsboro ambulance but apparently not taken to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters also responded to the accident.

4:53 p.m. — Many Goessel firefighters were still battling a pasture fire when an alarm company asked that they check what turned out to be a false alarm about water flow at Bethesda Home. One firefighter checked out the alarm. Remaining firefighters returned to the station at 5:23 p.m.
