Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

april 3

4:12 a.m. — A woman who was dizzy from a possible head injury was taken from the 200 block of S. Thorp St. to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

6:50 a.m. — A man in his 50s with flu symptoms and weakness who fell out of a bathtub was taken from the 200 block of S. Buller St. in Goessel to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel firefighters assisted after there was no response to a page for a Goessel first responder.

7:21 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters and Marion ambulance were dispatched to 220th Rd. and K-15 for a car with airbags deployed that was reported by a passer-by. EMS director Ed Debesis arrived first at 7:27 a.m. and discovered one person in the car with right shoulder pain who did not want to be taken to a hospital. Responders continued to the scene, but the person refused ambulance transportation.

9:48 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

April 4

6:04 a.m. — Woman in her 50s who was weak and unable to get up was taken from the 1500 block of Victory Ln. to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:07 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita by Marion ambulance.

1:47 p.m. — Hillsboro and Peabody fire departments responded to multiple reports of several small fires along Indigo Rd. between 180th Rd. and US-50. A Hillsboro police officer southbound on Indigo Rd. reported that fires he had discovered were in the ditch next to plowed fields and ones with green vegetation. He subsequently reported discovering a larger fire near 110th Rd. that was threatening to jump Indigo Rd. into a pasture. A Hillsboro firefighter reported “four ditch fires in the first four miles south of town,” while the Hillsboro officer reported an additional fire near 130th Rd. Peabody firefighters arrived at the 110th Rd. brush fire at 2:07 p.m. An officer reported a minute later that a house was in danger between 140th and 150th Rds, and Hillsboro firefighters moved to concentrate efforts there. Two additional Peabody units arrived at the 110th Rd. fire at 2:31 p.m. and reported the fire was just about extinguished at 2:47 p.m. Hillsboro fire chief Ben Steketee asked Peabody fire to check the roads between 110th and 140th Rds. while Hillsboro fire began shifting efforts back to the north. All firefighting units were released to return to their stations by 3:31 p.m. A flare-up reported at 4:03 p.m. at Indigo and 160th Rd. was extinguished by Hillsboro firefighters.

2:45 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis in Wichita by Marion ambulance.

7:46 p.m. — An man having difficulties with a catheter in the 200 block of N. Maple St. was examined by Peabody ambulance personnel. The man was not taken to a hospital.

thursday

3:44 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:05 p.m. — Burns firefighters reported they were responding to an uncontrolled fire in Butler County at NW 110th and NW Hopkins Switch Rds. All units were released to return to the station at 7:15 p.m.

10:41 p.m. — A man who fell in the 2100 block of Schlotthauer Dr. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

friday

1:39 a.m. — Marion ambulance responded to St. Luke for a patient transfer, but returned to the station at 2:56 a.m. as the patient was not ready to be transported. The ambulance returned to St. Luke at 3:56 a.m. and took the patient to Via Christi – St. Francis.

4:08 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:47 a.m. — A ditch fire on US-56 east of Diamond Rd. was extinguished by Hillsboro firefighters.

2:23 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters needed about two hours to extinguish a grass fire on Jade Rd. between 220th and 230th Rds.

6:24 p.m. — An off-duty officer requested an ambulance on US-50 between Zebulon and Alfalfa Rds. for a man who had reportedly been walking along the road and appeared to have frostbite. Florence ambulance personnel examined the man but did not take him to a hospital.

10:21 p.m. — A man reported smelling smoke in a residence in the 400 block of S. Ash St. Hillsboro firefighters investigated, but found no smoke or fire.

saturday

12:33 a.m. — Marion ambulance responded to a residence on Lois Ln. at the county lake for a man in his 70s who had a seizure. At 12:56 a.m., ambulance personnel request a law enforcement officer at the scene. At 1:18 a.m., ambulance personnel reported they were en route to St. Luke with the man.

8:54 a.m. — Peabody, Burns, and Florence fire departments and Peabody ambulance were dispatched to the 700 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody for a chimney fire. At 9:11 a.m., Peabody chief Mark Penner radioed that a fire hydrant cap at 7th and Walnut Sts. was not opening. Another firefighter was able to remove a diverter to get water to the fire truck. At 10:51 a.m., Florence and Burns firefighters were released, and a state fire marshal arrived to initiate an investigation.

7:55 p.m. — Peabody firefighters extinguished an unpermitted burn in the 500 block of Needle Rd.

8:28 p.m. — A man in his 70s who was feeling weak and had high blood pressure was taken from the 1500 block of Denver St. to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

sunday

8:26 a.m. — A woman in her 80s who fell at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:44 p.m. — A woman in her 80s who fell at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:11 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Wesley Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

monday

10:43 a.m. — A woman in her 80s with chest pains in the 100 block of S. Birch St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:38 p.m. — An individual with abnormal test results was taken from Upland Rd. between 130th and 140th Rds. to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:27 p.m. — An elderly man who was choking in the 400 block of S. Washington St. was examined by Hillsboro ambulance personnel. He was not taken to a hospital.
