Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

may 8

11:24 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital was taken to McPherson Hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:48 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

2:13 p.m. — A small grass fire on 60th Rd. between Old Mill Rd. and the Harvey County line was extinguished by Peabody firefighters within 20 minutes.

3:27 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita by Marion ambulance.

4:36 p.m. — A Hillsboro bus driver reported an unattended fire in a field in the area of 340th and Goldenrod Rds. Tampa firefighters extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes.

6:08 p.m. — A man in his 60s who fell and was unable to get up in the 300 block of N. Birch St. was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:50 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College in housing at Adams and B Sts. was discovered by Hillsboro firefighters to have been triggered by a cooking incident.

10:57 p.m. — A woman who was bleeding after falling was taken from Marion Assisted Living to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:27 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance reported it was back at the station. An initial dispatch and subsequent calls were not recorded by the newspaper’s system.

8:16 a.m. — A woman in her 30s with a history of diabetes was taken from the 200 block of E. 9th St. in Peabody to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance.

9:02 a.m. — A man in his 60s with chest pains in the 300 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:30 p.m. — A girl on a bicycle who was hit by a truck at Main and Cedar Sts. was examined by Marion ambulance personnel. She was taken to St. Luke by private vehicle.

5:42 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Wesley – Woodlawn Hospital in Wichita by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:54 p.m. — A woman in her 70s who fell on a step on 280th Rd. between Sunflower and Timber Rds. was taken to Herington Municipal Hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:16 p.m. — A man in his 70s who fell on Back Bay Ct. at the county lake was examined by Florence ambulance personnel. No additional transmissions were recorded indicating whether the man was taken to a hospital.

thursday

8:43 a.m. — A woman who fell in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. was assisted by Marion ambulance personnel. The woman was not taken to a hospital.

friday

8 a.m. — Marion, Hillsboro, and Florence firefighters responded to the 200 block of N. 1st St. in Marion for a house fire. An incoming Hillsboro fire truck was told to proceed at “normal traffic” at 8:45 a.m., a possible indication that the fire was under control. The fire was reported out at 9:03 a.m.

11:14 a.m. — A woman in her 70s with prolonged vomiting who was possibly dehydrated was taken from Marion Assisted Living to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

2:05 p.m. — Tampa ambulance, and Hillsboro ambulance as backup, responded to the area north of 350th and Chisholm Trail Rd. after dispatchers received a call saying a piece of metal fell on a man’s left leg and caused a laceration that might need stitches. The man was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance with a Hillsboro medic on board to assist.

3:39 p.m. — An elderly woman who got down on a floor to clean something Thursday night and could not get up in the 200 block of S. Birch St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:12 p.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Wesley Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:24 p.m. — A man in his 60s with COPD and congestive heart failure who was having difficulty breathing on Holly Rd. between 180th and 190th Rds. was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. EMS director Ed Debesis assisted.

saturday

5:34 a.m. — A dispatcher paged Hillsboro firefighters for a carbon monoxide alarm at “the apartments on Ash St.” Hillsboro chief Ben Steketee responded, “Do you have a better description than the apartments on Ash St.?” A different dispatcher said the reporting party was unclear, but that they were showing the 200 block of S. Ash St. for the caller. Hillsboro firefighters were clear of the scene at 5:56 a.m.

5:12 p.m. — After no Lehigh firefighters responded to a page, Hillsboro firefighters investigated a complaint about a controlled burn in the 300 block of W. Main St. in Lehigh. Firefighters extinguished the remaining flames.

sunday

1:16 a.m. — A woman with chest pains who dispatchers described as intoxicated was taken from the restrooms at Hillsboro Cove at the reservoir to HCH by Marion ambulance.

4:31 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to Marion Assisted Living for a patient that dispatchers said was believed to “have passed.” At 4:42 a.m., a Marion medic described the patient’s condition as “code blue,” indicating no pulse or respiration. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to assist at 4:47 a.m. A coroner was reported at the scene at 5:04 a.m.

3:13 p.m. — A woman who fell and had a possible broken wrist was taken from the Tabor College fine arts center to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:25 p.m. — A woman feeling heaviness in her chest on Limestone Rd. between 360th Rd. and the Marion/Dickinson county line was taken to Abilene Memorial Hospital by Tampa ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance responded as backup, but at 10:41 p.m. was told it could cancel its response.

monday

4:17 a.m. — An individual with abdominal pains was taken from the 300 block of Lincoln St. in Tampa to HCH by Tampa ambulance.

4:56 a.m. — A woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living was examined by Marion ambulance personnel, but was not taken to a hospital.

5:27 a.m. — A burning round hay bale on Holly Rd. between 80th and 90th Rds. was extinguished by Peabody firefighters.

7:30 a.m. — A man with diabetic issues in the 200 block of W. B St. was assisted by Hillsboro ambulance personnel, but was not taken to a hospital.

9:37 a.m. — A patient at HCH was taken to Salina Regional Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:32 p.m. — A patient at McPherson Hospital was taken to Marion Assisted Living by Marion ambulance.

4:47 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was sent to the 100 block of S. Date St. after dispatchers received a call from an unidentified male who requested medical assistance and then hung up. No one was taken to a hospital.

11:01 p.m. — A woman in her 80s with back and stomach pain was taken from the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
