DISPATCHES
Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MAY 22
12:45 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.
12:58 p.m. — A 9-month-old choking in the 300 block of N. Madison St. in Hillsboro was examined but not transported by Hillsboro ambulance.
2:46 p.m. — Two people were killed in a one-vehicle rollover on K-15 near 140th Rd. Hillsboro and Marion ambulances, a first responder and firefighters from Goessel, and Hillsboro rescue squad all were dispatched. A Marion firefighter also was on the scene.
3:21 p.m. — A stroke patient with low blood pressure and numbness in his foot was taken to St. Luke from the 300 block of N. 1st St. in Marion.
The call was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance, still at the scene of the accident near Goessel. At the ambulance’s request, a single EMT in Florence ambulance also was called. An off-duty EMT, monitoring transmissions, also volunteered to respond in her own vehicle.
The Hillsboro and Florence ambulances both arrived 20 minutes after the initial call. Florence ambulance departed four minutes later. Hillsboro ambulance transported the patient.
MAY 23
4 p.m. — An 80-year-old man suffering a possible seizure at Parkside Assisted Living was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:13 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman with a history of seizures who was having trouble breathing at Johnson’s General Store in Florence was taken to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance, which responded along a full crew aboard Florence ambulance.
10:10 p.m. — At the request of a sheriff’s deputy, a 19-year-old having an asthma attack near 160th and Goldenrod Rds. was examined by Hillsboro ambulance, but the young woman declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
6:40 a.m. — An 85-year-old woman experiencing dizziness near 190th and Eagle Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
FRIDAY
3:48 a.m. — A 35year-old man living in a recreational vehicle parked in a storage lot southeast of Cleveland and Grant Sts. in Marion’s Jex Addition was checked by Marion ambulance after he fell. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
12:17 p.m. — A 79-year-old woman who could not feel her legs or get out of bed in the 500 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. One attendant was on the scene almost immediately and was later joined by a second attendant in the ambulance.
1:49 p.m. — A cardiac patient at St. Luke was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance.
7:47 p.m. — Both Hillsboro and Marion ambulances responded to a report of a man who collapsed and was unconscious outside a residence in the 500 block of S. Main St., but Hillsboro ambulance reported there was no patient to examine or transport.
9:49 p.m. — A person suffering a seizure in the 400 block of E. Marion St. in Goessel was taken to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.
With no immediate response from Goessel first responders, Goessel firefighters not trained as medical responders were sent to the address. Sixteen minutes after the initial call, a trained medical responder from Goessel responded to the call. Hillsboro ambulance arrived a minute later.
11:53 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with severe pain in his side was taken from Marion Assisted Living to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
SATURDAY
5:38 a.m. — A 10-year-old boy suffering seizures in the 800 block of W. Grand St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
6:50 a.m. — An off-duty sheriff’s deputy reported that a man had passed out in a ditch at 6th and Plum Sts. in Peabody. Peabody ambulance was called, but before it arrived, the man awakened and walked home.
10:50 a.m. — A 4-year-old having a seizure on Prairie Lane at Marion County Lake was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
1:09 p.m. — A warehouse fire in the 400 block of Main St. in Durham was extinguished in less than 10 minutes by Durham firefighters.
Hillsboro and Tampa firefighters and a tanker from Lincolnville also were dispatched but most were quickly told to disregard to call. Tampa ambulance also responded. Some trucks remained on the scene for 2½ hours.
1:49 p.m. — A man who fell and possibly broke his arm at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:25 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
5:01 p.m. — A second HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.
10:56 p.m. — Before deputies arrived, an off-duty ambulance attendant assisted with a non-injury accident in which a vehicle went into a ditch on US-56/77 at the Marion-Dickinson County line.
SUNDAY
9:08 a.m. — A firefighter requested an ambulance for an elderly woman who felt dizzy and clammy at Florence United Methodist Church. A first responder with Florence ambulance was on the scene within three minutes. Marion ambulance arrived 10 minutes later and took the patient to St. Luke.
1:21 p.m. — Fire in the pit of a stone outdoor toilet located on a point in the northeast section of Marion County Lake was extinguished within 20 minutes by Marion firefighters.
4:02 p.m. — A recent heart surgery patient who felt weak and passed out in the 200 block of Locust St. in Marion was examined but not taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
6:30 p.m. — A man having difficulty getting up after a fall at Eastshore subdivision at Marion Reservoir was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
MONDAY
7:48 a.m. — A Bethesda Home patient who fell overnight and had hip pain in the morning was taken to Newton Medical by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:26 p.m. — At the request of a home health care nurse, a 61-year-old resident of the 300 block of S. Birch St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
