Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JULY 10
1:15 a.m. — A Hillsboro Community Hospital patient was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by the county’s backup ambulance, operating out of Hillsboro.
10:28 a.m. — An actual emergency during a practice exercise at Diamond Vista wind farm sent both the backup ambulance operating out of Hillsboro and Tampa ambulance to 330th and Indigo Rds. A patient with an unspecified injuries or condition was rated by ambulance attendants as “code yellow,” meaning with possibly life-threatening problems. However, attendants reported that the patient’s employer had declined to have the ambulance take the patient take to a hospital.
12:36 p.m. — Another HCH patient was transferred to Wesley by the backup ambulance, operating out of Hillsboro.
3:15 p.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.
JULY 11
4:13 p.m. — One person was reported entrapped and another injured in a two-vehicle accident at 80th and Chisholm Trail Rds. Hillsboro and Peabody ambulances, Goessel firefighters and first responders, and Peabody rescue squad were dispatched. Both patients were initially classified by EMTs as suffering potentially life-threatening injuries but were later reclassified by the county emergency medical services director as having minor injuries only. Both declined to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, but one reportedly went by private vehicle.
5:26 p.m. — A Parkside Homes assisted living resident in her 90s who thought she might be having a stroke was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:29 p.m. — Marion ambulance helped lift a resident of a duplex on Victory Lane in Marion. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
1:40 p.m. — A Hillsboro firefighter helped county road and bridge workers clean up a spill of an unspecified nature between 140th and 170th Rds. on Kanza Rd. He returned two hours later.
8:14 p.m. — A woman who fell in the 300 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:30 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Via Christi – St Francis Hospital’s trauma unit in Wichita by Marion ambulance. The ambulance was away for almost three hours.
10:33 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance was away for almost two hours.
FRIDAY
1:15 a.m. — A 15-year-old who was crying, turning purple, and unable to breath with a swollen throat was taken to Newton Med from the 100 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance, which had just returned from Newton, met Peabody ambulance on the edge of town so one of its more highly certified attendants could accompany the patient to Newton. Both ambulances were back in their stations by 3:02 a.m.
10:19 a.m. — A 70-year-old diabetic woman who was shaky and weak in her legs was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley from the 100 block of Commercial St. in Goessel. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
7:07 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman not feeling well in the 400 block of E. Main St. in Goessel was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
SATURDAY
6:13 a.m. — A small fire reported at 240th and Falcon Rds. could not be located by Hillsboro firefighters, who searched for half an hour but had trouble reaching the area because of muddy roads.
7:58 a.m. — A smoke alarm that sounded after pancakes burned on a stove in Dakota Hall at Tabor College was reset by Hillsboro firefighters.
2:16 p.m. — Lost Springs firefighters provided a tanker to assist in battling a house fire 2½ miles south of Burdick.
6:01 p.m. — A carbon monoxide alarm sounding in a house on Quail Creek Rd. north of 20th Rd. was checked by Peabody firefighters.
8:22 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters challenged announcement of a controlled burn in the 200 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro because open burning is not allowed within city limits.
SUNDAY
11:45 a.m. — A 94-year-old woman who suffered a possible stroke at Hillsboro Elementary School was checked by Hillsboro ambulance attendants, who assessed her as being in a possibly life-threatening situation. However, she chose to go to a hospital by private vehicle instead of ambulance. The call initially was misreported as being in Marion.
3:26 p.m. — A 48-year-old man who fell from his wheelchair near the pool at the Marion Sports and Aquatics Center was helped by Marion ambulance attendants and a Marion firefighter who was already at the pool.
9:19 p.m. — As a precaution, Lincolnville first responders and Tampa ambulance were sent to a non-injury one-car accident on US-56/77 between 320th and 330th Rds. Tampa ambulance later was recalled after first responders determined there were no injuries.
MONDAY
9:49 a.m. — At a deputy sheriff’s request, Florence firefighters helped wash mud off US-50 after a non-injury accident just east of the US-50/77 roundabout. Hazardous materials crews were later called to remove leaked diesel fuel.
11:18 a.m. — A woman who fell downstairs nearing the mapping office at Marion County Courthouse was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
9:54 p.m. — A possible stoke victim in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance, crew members from which rated the patient’s condition as life-threatening.
11:19 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Via Christi - St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
