Marion ambulance handled the call after Hillsboro ambulance was diverted to a second, presumably more urgent call in Hillsboro.

9:02 a.m. — A man with difficulty breathing in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance, which handled the call after Marion ambulance took over its previous call.

AUG. 25

12:32 p.m. — With Marion ambulance in Newton and Hillsboro ambulance having been taken out of service for repair, the Hillsboro ambulance crew waited for an already en route backup ambulance from Marion to arrive before heading for a call on Echo Lane at Marion County Park and Lake.

A man in his 70s was reported to have taken a full week’s worth of blood pressure medicine after having missed a dose.

Dispatchers rated the call an “alpha” response, the lowest priority on what’s called an “omega” priority list. The ambulance crew questioned the ranking, but dispatchers replied: “We don’t discuss role ‘omegas,’ but we are seeing an ‘alpha’ on it.”

The county’s ambulance director then asked for additional information and learned that home health workers were at the residence, had communicated with a hospital, and had reported the patient was awake, aware, and talking.

He then responded to the call himself, helping direct the backup ambulance to the location before it took the patient to St. Luke.

4:42 p.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulance, Marion firefighters, and Marion rescue squad members were dispatched to a truck-train accident east of 170th and Quail Creek Rds.

Most were told to disregard the call after it was determined that only one person had been in the truck and that only minor damage had been done to one of the truck’s taillights.

The driver reported no injury and declined to be taken to a hospital.

8:57 p.m. — A woman whose face was injured when air bags deployed in a car-deer accident on US-77 at 100th Rd. was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital. Florence firefighters and rescue squad members also were sent to the accident.
