Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MARCH 22

2:19 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman not feeling well in the 400 block of Locust St. in Marion was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital.

3 p.m. — A surgical patient from St. Luke was transferred by Marion ambulance to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado.

7:24 p.m. — A utility pole and power line fell across US-77 just south of Lincolnville, and a gas line was damaged. Sheriff’s deputies and Lincolnville firefighters spent half an hour securing the scene and directing traffic until utility workers could arrive. Lost Springs firefighters also were asked to help, but the request was canceled before they arrived.

8:02 p.m. — A 93-year-old man who fell at Parkside Homes apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

MARCH 23

10:41 a.m. — A brush pile burning along US-77 northeast of Burns was investigated by Burns firefighters and determined to be contained and not a threat.

THURSDAY

7:51 a.m. — Four people involved in a two-vehicle accident at Grand and Ash Sts. in Hillsboro all declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:58 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

FRIDAY

1:07 p.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a different patient from St. Francis back to St. Luke.

8:13 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 300 block of N. C St. in Ramona was taken by Tampa ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital. Marion ambulance also responded to the call.

9:58 p.m. — A vehicle on fire on South Lake Rd. in Harvey County initially was reported as an accident on Indigo Rd. in Marion County. Hillsboro and Peabody ambulances and firefighters were alerted until the correct location could be determined.

SATURDAY

11:42 a.m. — Marion firefighters determined that a grass fire near 190th and Quail Creek Rds. had not grown out of control, as a caller had suggested.

12:34 a.m. — A Hillsboro firefighter shut off gas to a meter a driver had backed into in the 300 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro.

3:11 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to what initially was reported to be an unreported controlled burn on Mustang Rd. between 50th and 60th Rds. The fire turned out to be a controlled training exercise in Harvey County for Walton firefighters.

5:25 p.m. — An out-of-control grass fire in the 300 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro was brought back under control in less than 30 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

SUNDAY

1:16 a.m. — A man found unresponsive and not breathing on his side in a garage in the 100 block of E. Marion St. in Lehigh was pronounced dead by a Hillsboro ambulance attendant.

An ambulance supervisor, a Lehigh first responder, and Lehigh firefighters also responded to the call and requested that a sheriff’s deputy be summoned, as well.

In addition to the deputy, both the sheriff and the undersheriff arrived and remained on the scene until 5:24 a.m., then remained on duty in the sheriff’s office in Marion until 8:37 a.m.

1:27 a.m. — A Goessel first responder radioed a request for help with an psychologically disturbed person at a home just north of Goessel on K-15. A sheriff’s deputy responded.

9:08 a.m. — A confused 84-year-old woman who activated a medical alarm after falling at a home in the 700 block of E. Sherman St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

MONDAY

5:19 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health.
