10:12 a.m. — A 56-year-old woman who fell between two units at Oakwood Manor Apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital but asked for help getting onto her feet. Because Hillsboro ambulance had not completed its previous call, an ambulance shift supervisor arrived and asked Marion ambulance for help. An off-duty EMT nearby volunteered to help instead, and Marion ambulance was told it could disregard the call.

2 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman who fell in a kitchen at Hillsboro Elementary School and was bleeding from her head declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:38 p.m. — Hillsboro and Lehigh firefighters conducted a controlled burn near US-56 and Falcon Rd. as a three-hour training exercise.

THURSDAY

5:04 a.m. — Marion ambulance was summoned to St. Luke to help personnel there then transferred a patient to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to its quarters at 8:35 a.m.

7:21 p.m. — Marion firefighters responded but were not needed because a utility crew already was dealing with a Flint Hills Rural Electric pole on fire near Marion Reservoir’ s spillway.

7:55 p.m. — An unconscious 54-year-old man at Oakwood Manor Apartments already was receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation when Hillsboro ambulance and a shift supervisor arrived. The supervisor had to ask for the patient’s apartment number, which had been left out of the original dispatch. After 30 minutes of initial care, the patient was taken by Hillsboro ambulance, with the supervisor joining the crew, to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Marion ambulance initially responded, as well, but was told by the supervisor that it was not needed.

FRIDAY

2:24 a.m. — A 48-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita.

2:41 p.m. — A newly installed cable TV wire that was snagged by a farm implement west of the Marion County Lake office on Turkey Creek Rd. snapped a utility pole and caused an electric line to fall onto the implement. Marion firefighters secured the scene and kept the operator on a tractor pulling the implement until Evergy workers could cut power. Marion ambulance, the sheriff, the undersheriff, and the county ambulance director helped during the rescue.

5:33 p.m. — A fence and trash can on fire at a house south of Casey’s General Store in Marion were extinguished in less than 10 minutes by Marion firefighters.

5:48 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman, gasping and convulsing at a Cottonwood Point campsite at Marion Reservoir, began receiving CPR on dispatchers’ instructions while awaiting arrival of Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance, which had been on standby at a school event in Goessel, also was dispatched. Marion firefighters, still at their station from a previous call, were called to assist with CPR. An EMT from Hillsboro ambulance joined Marion ambulance’s crew, and Marion’s fire chief acted as driver so all EMTs could tend to the patient during an emergency trip to St. Francis.

10:54 p.m. — A 29-year-old woman, shaking, vomiting, and with her lips turning purple from multiple seizures, was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in Florence. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

9:33 a.m. — A 98-year-old man who fell at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to Wesley Medical Center by Marion ambulance, filling in for Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance originally attempted to go to Moundridge Hospital but was diverted to NMC Health then to St. Francis and finally to Wesley. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer. In case additional calls came in while most county ambulances were unavailable, a backup ambulance was activated as a first-response vehicle and stationed in Hillsboro. It then was sent to Peabody while Peabody ambulance was repaired.

7:12 p.m. — Marion ambulance stood by during a domestic dispute at a rental home in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion.
