Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
MAY 10
12:18 a.m. — A patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center in Newton.
1:49 a.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a false alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody.
7:27 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
8:02 a.m. — Another fire alarm at Westview Manor was determined by Peabody police to be a false alarm before firefighters responded.
9:39 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman who fell and gashed her finger while walking a dog in the 300 block of B Rd. in Goessel was taken to NMC by Hillsboro ambulance. First responders from Goessel did not answer a page.
11:51 a.m. — A 79-year-old man who fainted, fell, and hurt his head in the 500 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:04 p.m. — A 51-year-old woman experiencing stomach pain in the 700 block of N. Popular St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance.
3:31 p.m. — A 14-year-old having trouble breathing in a minivan in the 800 block of Weldon St., near Marion High School, declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
6:43 p.m. — A 51-year-old woman scheduled for surgery was transferred from St. Luke to NMC by Marion ambulance.
8:15 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance shuttled an air ambulance crew from Hillsboro’s airport to HCH and back to the airport with a patient.
9:18 p.m. — A 49-year-old man with respiratory and cardiac problems was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC.
9:36 p.m. — A 93-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Parkside Homes to HCH.
11:42 p.m. — A fire alarm at a women’s dorm on the Tabor College campus proved to be a false alarm. It originally had been dispatched incorrectly as being at a men’s dorm.
MAY 11
4:38 a.m. — A 55-year-old man having trouble breathing in the 200 block of W. Main St. in Burns was taken by Marion ambulance to NMC. A first responder from Burns evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
10:01 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Luke.
12:03 p.m. — A call to Lost Springs firefighters was quickly canceled after Centre High School officials reported that technicians were testing fire alarms at the school.
2:17 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Hutch Regional by Marion ambulance.
11:23 p.m. — At a police officer’s request, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to a Tabor College crosswalk on D St. A pedestrian who reportedly had fallen declined to be taken to a hospital.
THURSDAY
4:37 a.m. — A 70-year-old man who fell and was running a fever somewhere in southern Dickinson County was taken to HCH by a Dickinson County ambulance.
8:35 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters spent 20 minutes conducting a controlled burn in the 400 block of S. Birch St. in Hillsboro.
4:16 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.
9:21 p.m. — A 73-year-old man who suffered a seizure at a farm near 100th and Alamo Rds. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, after being diverted there from NMC. A first responder from Goessel evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
FRIDAY
12:33 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
1:13 p.m. — A trash barrel, smoldering unattended on Washington St. west of the Burns city building, was checked by Burns firefighters and determined to be safe.
SATURDAY
12:05 p.m. — Another fire alarm at Westview Manor was determined by Peabody firefighters to be a false alarm.
12:13 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.
2:50 p.m. — A weak and confused 57-year-old with congestive heart failure was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from the 200 block of N. Buller St. in Goessel to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, after it was diverted from NMC.
5:53 p.m. — An 89-year-old woman exhibiting stroke symptoms at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:01 p.m. — Burns firefighters assisted Potwin firefighters in battling a fire in Butler County.
8:42 p.m. — A 39-year-old woman whose head wound and possibly broken nose were thought to be the result of domestic violence was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance from a car parked along US-56 near K-168 at Lehigh.
SUNDAY
9:05 a.m. — A tree burning after being hit by lightning in the 100 block of Zebu St. in Burns was extinguished by Burns firefighters.
9:44 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman vomiting at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.
11:10 p.m. — An automated report of a traffic accident at Lincoln and 2nd Sts. in Hillsboro proved to be a false alarm. Hillsboro police, medics, firefighters, and rescue squad members searched in vain to find the accident.
MONDAY
1:28 p.m. — A 19-year-old man who exhibited altered mental status after hitting his head while playing Ultimate Frisbee on the Tabor College campus was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
3:03 p.m. — A 58-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC.
