Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

APRIL 25

9:39 a.m. — A Hillsboro Community Hospital patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

APRIL 26

10:56 a.m. — A 37-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.

11:18 a.m. — A 76-year-old woman injured in a two-vehicle accident at 190th and Nighthawk Rds. was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance was diverted there after originally heading to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The county’s ambulance director, Marion firefighters, and Hillsboro rescue squad also responded. With both Marion and Hillsboro ambulances en route to Wichita, Tampa ambulance was ordered to stand by for about an hour near Canada.

11:39 a.m. — A fire alarm at Cedar Hall on the Tabor College campus was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm.

5:55 p.m. — A 77-year-old man who fell at a farm near 110th and Sunflower Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders did not answer a page, so Peabody ambulance was dispatched as a first-response unit, arriving a minute before Marion ambulance.

7:52 p.m. — Peabody ambulance stood by while sheriff’s deputies and Peabody police broke up a fight outside Peabody-Burns High School. One of those involved initially reported he was having trouble breathing, but he declined to be taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

No ambulance or fire calls monitored.

FRIDAY

8:26 a.m. — A home health patient on the floor of a home in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Tampa declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.

1:56 p.m. — Peabody ambulance transferred a patient from McPherson Center for Health back to Parkside Homes, Hillsboro. The ambulance returned to Peabody at 4:14 p.m.

SATURDAY

9:19 a.m. — Light smoke but no visible fire inside a mobile home in the 700 block of W. 7th St. in Peabody was investigated by Peabody firefighters. Marion and Hillsboro firefighters and Peabody ambulance initially were called but were told to stand down.

3:41 p.m. — A 24-year-old woman who fainted repeatedly after cutting her finger in a kitchen at the Historic Elgin Hotel in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. The hotel’s address was reported incorrectly in initial dispatches.

4:13 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro after an apparently mistaken report from Sedgwick County that a woman there might be unconscious and unresponsive after taking a drug overdose.

SUNDAY

1:04 p.m. — An 88-year-old woman with a fractured hip was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis.

4:54 p.m. — A 43-year-old woman who fell and may have broken her ankle outside a home in the 300 block of E. Maple St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:04 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman lying on a floor at a home in the 1400 block of E. Denver St. in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants and firefighters and taken to St. Luke.

8:08 p.m. — Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on an unconscious patient not breathing at Peabody Health and Rehab until Hillsboro ambulance attendants arrived and pronounced her dead at 8:38 p.m. Peabody ambulance was paged multiple times but did not respond.

MONDAY

9:31 a.m. — Marion ambulance and firefighters returned to the home in the 1400 block of E. Denver St. in Marion where a 73-year-old woman again had fallen. Hillsboro ambulance, which had been in Marion obtaining supplies, also responded. The woman declined to be taken to a hospital.
