Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

OCT. 3

12:15 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a false alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody.

OCT. 4

2:34 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman who fell and may have broken a hip at a home on Lois Ln. at Marion County Lake was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance had mechanical problems en route. Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched as well, but the mechanical problems were resolved before it arrived. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 5:23 p.m.

5:32 p.m. — An 85-year-old male surgical patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:09 p.m.

THURSDAY

2:27 a.m. — A 61-year-old man with cold sweats and bleeding in the 800 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody ambulance was paged but did not answer.

4:29 a.m. — A woman who went to the Hillsboro ambulance station but declined to be taken to a hospital later showed up at St. Luke Hospital in Marion, and the hospital asked ambulance attendants for more information about her visit.

5:15 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman short of breath was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on a physician’s orders from Salem Home to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:54 a.m. — A report of a tree on fire in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to be intentional burning of tree branches in a fire pit.

11:07 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman with trouble breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance on a physician’s orders from a Parkside Homes duplex to HCH.

6:40 p.m. — A weak 88-year-old woman feeling ill in the 400 block of W. 7th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A Florence first responder assisted with the call. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:58 p.m.

7:03 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College townhouses in the 400 block of S. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by a cooking accident.

FRIDAY

1:49 p.m. — Marion firefighters joined an Atmos Energy crew in monitoring a natural gas meter struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion.

4:19 p.m. — A 95-year-old woman with high blood pressure and vision problems was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:48 p.m.

SATURDAY

9:17 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman who injured her leg and elbow when she fell off a golf cart at 9th and Sycamore Sts. in Peabody was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. A lone emergency medical technician aboard Peabody ambulance checked her vital signs, dressed her wounds, kept her warm in his ambulance, and announced that she wanted to go to St. Luke before Hillsboro ambulance arrived.

9:29 p.m. — A 78-year-old man who fell and hurt his leg at a residence in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital. A Peabody ambulance attendant and Peabody firefighters helped him get back in bed. Hillsboro ambulance, originally dispatched to the call, turned around and went back to Hillsboro.

SUNDAY

4:51 p.m. — A 12-year-old boy who flew over the handlebars of his motorcycle and hurt his shoulder at Green Acres motocross course along US-56 north of Marion was taken to Wesley by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance and a helicopter ambulance were called as well but told to stand down. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 8:12 p.m.

11:31 p.m. — An 80-year-old man who fell at Marion Assisted Living declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:49 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman with abdominal pain at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

2:41 a.m. — The previously transported patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to McPherson Center for Health for treatment of bowel obstruction. The call originally was assigned to Hillsboro ambulance, which switched the call to Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:47 a.m.

7:53 a.m. — A woman who suffered scrapes in a one-vehicle accident at 230th and Diamond Rds. was checked by Hillsboro ambulance but declined to be taken to a hospital. Hillsboro firefighters also responded.

6:39 p.m. — A 62-year-old woman who was bit by a cat at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:32 p.m. — Peabody ambulance stood by for nearly half an hour while law enforcement officers investigated a report of a suicidal person at a farmhouse near 120th and Pawnee Rds.
