Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

DEC. 19

6:17 a.m. — A 48-year-old man choking, shaking, and having trouble breathing at a residence in the 600 block of Hudson St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance initially responded as well, but attendants were told to stand down before they arrived.

4:06 p.m. — An 87-year-old man with uncontrolled atrial fibrillation was transferred by Marion ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:08 pm.

DEC. 20

5:08 p.m. — A 50-year-old man needing surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:05 p.m.

8:49 p.m. — An 18-month-old baby shaking and having trouble breathing at a residence near US-50 and Union Rd. was examined by Marion ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.

THURSDAY

7:55 p.m. — A driver who hit a deer on K-150 near Bluestem Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters and rescue squad members initially were dispatched as well even though no entrapment was reported.

FRIDAY

12:42 a.m. — A domestic dispute in the 200 block of W. 8th St. in Florence resulted in a call to Marion ambulance, but no patients were taken to a hospital.

11:15 a.m. — No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident involving a county truck at Harshman Construction’s quarry entrance onto US-50 east of Florence. Marion, Peabody, and Hillsboro ambulances, the county ambulance director, and Florence firefighters were dispatched. Peabody and Hillsboro ambulances were told to stand down before they arrived, and a request for a helicopter ambulance was canceled.

2:46 p.m. — A 27-year-old man having trouble breathing at a home in the 100 block of S. Church St. in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel firefighters made initial contact with the patient.

5:51 p.m. — A 28-year-old woman dizzy, weak, and clammy at Grand Oaks Apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:11 p.m. — A woman with unspecified symptoms at a residence in the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched but was told to stand down before it arrived.

8:16 p.m. — A mentally ill 60-year-old woman with a broken shoulder who took as many as 40 hydrocodone tablets was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 500 block of S. Cedar St.

SATURDAY

2:54 a.m. — After Hillsboro ambulance was sent to HCH to transfer a 36-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation to Newman Regional Medical Center, Emporia, the assignment was changed, and Marion ambulance transferred the patient instead.

9:08 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head in the 500 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:26 p.m. —An uninjured 85-year-old woman who fell at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants and declined to be taken to a hospital.

CHRISTMAS EVE

9:26 a.m. — A confused 54-year-old man with elevated blood sugar at Flying Eagle Truck Stop in Florence was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance after the ambulance was diverted there from NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:42 p.m.

3:03 p.m. — An unresponsive person at a residence in the 100 block of S. Church St. in Goessel was pronounced dead by Goessel first responders. Hillsboro ambulance was told to stand down before it arrived. Goessel firefighters later were summoned to help lift and requested additional equipment from Hillsboro ambulance, which went to the address after it completed its next call.

4:10 p.m. — A 17-year-old girl seizing at a farmhouse near 80th and Eagle Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:30 p.m. — All Marion County units were advised to be on the lookout for a large flying object spotted entering the area. The object seemed to be a sleigh, red in color and pulled by several reindeer, one with a glowing red nose. The sound of jingle bells could be heard at least a mile away, and the driver was heard loudly saying, “Ho, ho, ho!”

8 p.m. — An update confirmed that the driver was Santa Claus, and all children were advised to be in bed. Santa was observed to be moving from rooftop to rooftop. If located, officers were told, do not detain but rather assist in spreading cheer.

CHRISTMAS

11:50 a.m. — A dehydrated 89-year-old woman at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:23 p.m. — A 52-year-old man was transferred by Tampa ambulance from St. Luke to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Tampa at 8:36 p.m.

6:08 p.m. — A 61-year-old woman with unspecified symptoms at a residence in the 1000 block of N. Vine St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
