Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
FEB. 27
8:02 a.m. — At the request of Marion’s fire chief, Marion firefighters were called to 180th and Remington Rds. and spent about an hour extinguishing a grass fire.
4:21 p.m. — Goessel firefighters helped Canton firefighters battle a grass fire at 27th Ave. and Cimarron Rd., four miles west and three miles north of Goessel, for about 40 minutes.
10:04 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College’s Harms Hall was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been caused by a cooking mishap.
FEB. 28
8:25 a.m. — A 47-year-old woman feeling as if a seizure were about to happen in the 500 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
10:11 a.m. — A 77-year-old man who fell and hurt his hip at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 11:48 a.m.
12:56 p.m. — An 82-year-old woman who fell and may have broken her hip at a home in the 700 block of N. Peabody St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody ambulance was paged but did not answer.
2:40 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters needed little more than half an hour to take care of a grass fire and gas leak in the 300 block of Willow Rd. in Hillsboro.
5:05 p.m. — A 28-year-old woman with leg and back pain outside Casey’s General Store in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:16 p.m. — A 58-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:18 p.m.
10:21 p.m. — A person who cut his nose and broke his oxygen line at a former quarry north of Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
THURSDAY
10:31 a.m. — A 16-year-old girl suffering seizures at Goessel High School declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.
2:55 p.m. — Fire in an unoccupied truck, threatening to spread to nearby grass at 80th and Wagon Wheel Rds., was contained within 15 minutes by Florence firefighters.
11:51 p.m. — First Hillsboro ambulance and then Marion ambulance were summoned by sheriff’s deputies to a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion, but both ambulances were told to stand down before reaching the address.
FRIDAY
2:48 a.m. — Fuel leaking from a vehicle with a snapped fuel line on Eisenhower Dr. near Marion Assisted Living quickly was washed down by Marion firefighters.
1:25 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman who fell and was bleeding from her head in the 500 block of N. Coble St. in Marion was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:35 p.m.
2:07 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman who fell and was bleeding from her head at Parkside Homes assisted living in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
4:12 p.m. — A 19-year-old woman having trouble breathing in the 100 block of S. Vernon St. in Lehigh declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
2:54 a.m. — A woman found lying on a floor at Parkside Homes assisted living when police were called to check on her was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:02 a.m. — A 74-year-old woman drifting in an out of consciousness at Parkside Homes nursing home was taken by Hillsboro ambulance on an emergency basis to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 12:33 p.m.
SUNDAY
1:17 p.m. — A 58-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:21 p.m.
MONDAY
3:25 a.m. — An uninjured 76-year-old man who fell at a farmhouse near Indigo and 240th Rds. was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.
5:12 p.m. — A 74-year-old woman with altered mental status at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
