Faber wins Trojan boys' tournament

Harry Faber won the Trojan Boys’ Invitational Friday in Hillsboro.

Faber defeated Korey Blecha of Neodesha, 8-0, David Kitzinger of Hesston, 8-3, and Collin Martin of Hesston, 8-2.

“It is tough to win a tournament,” head coach Stuart Holmes said. “I thought Harry did an especially good job of adapting to the strong crosswind and still played excellent tennis on a consistent basis.”

Daniel Gray finished fourth in No. 2 singles. Gray defeated Isaak Tatum of Neodesha, 8-0, but lost an 8-7 (7-5) match to Isaac Anaya of Hesston. He then fell to Caleb Hendricks of Sterling, 8-4, in the third-place match.

“Daniel continues to be very competitive at No. 2 singles,” Holmes said.

No. 1 doubles team Tyler Funk and Jeff Pritchard won one match against a team from Wichita Collegiate, 8-1.

No. 2 doubles team Ty Carey and River Cecil also picked up a win, 8-3, over a team from Wichita Collegiate.

“Their attitude and enthusiasm helps overcome the fact that they just started playing tennis last season, which is years behind most people playing varsity tennis,” Holmes said.
