Fall Fest raises spirits for autumn

Peabody greeted fall with open arms and full bellies Saturday at the Peabody Fall Fest. CK Pharmacy, Prairie Oak Alpacas, Flint Hills Gypsies, and Peabody Quilters offered food and trinkets in crisp morning air under light rain.
Peabody Community Foundation’s pancake feed at the senior center was a hit with morning crowds.
“People have been leaving licking their lips,” Linda Wetta said at the door.
Children younger than 13 were practicing pancake flipping for the Flippin’ Pancake Race up until the first round’s whistle. Mackenzie Phelps and Izzabella Reynolds won in the age 5 category, Holden Marshall and two-time champion Knox Woodruff won in the 7 to 8 category, and Joshua Hedrick won in the 10 to 13 category. T-shirts, coloring books, and Tootsie rolls were awarded afterward.
Wichita country artist Mollie Beaver sang in Santa Fe Park during and after the race. She performed “Jolene” and “Bubbly” as well as some of her own pieces to a steadily growing crowd in chairs.
Isaac Bouslog displayed spray paint abstract artwork. He has been creating pieces since August and also tried selling at Marion’s Farm and Art Market.
“We thought, ‘It’s the perfect time; let’s try it and see,’” his mother, Beth Bouslog, said about having a booth at the festival.
The Warriors Booster Club had a caramel apple bar as well as a selfie scavenger hunt.
Lindsay Hutchison and Melissa Johnson drizzled caramel from a crock pot over apple slices and let guests pick from M&Ms, coconut flakes, marshmallows, gummy bears, and other toppings.
They plan to decorate storefront windows for the school’s homecoming this week while continuing to raise money for feeding students on away games and other trips.
“We’re really excited to have this school spirit in a small town,” Hutchison said.
