Familiar face to step in for schools

Staff writer

Former superintendent Lee Leiker was hired Thursday to return as interim superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Marion school board met at 2 p.m. Thursday with Leiker, then announced his agreement to see the schools through the coming year.

Leiker, who retired five years ago and moved to Colby, was superintendant before Aaron Homburg, who resigned June 22.

Leiker will be paid $80,000.

Homburg was paid $108,996.80 per year plus health insurance. He was paid $62,498.40 for his May 25 resignation.

Leiker spent several years in Marion.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with USD 408 and the Marion community,” Leiker said.

School board president Nick Kraus said he was glad the board was able to hire an interim superintendent so promptly.

“I’m thankful that we got this position filled as quickly as we did, especially with someone very familiar with the district so that we can move forward without losing stride,” school board president Nick Kraus said.
