Families enjoy one last blast at pool

Staff writer

Many area families found their way to the Hillsboro Family Aquatic Center over Labor Day weekend for one last blast of pool-time fun.

“We were absolutely packed on Sunday,” pool manager Marci Cain said. “It’s been a very good year for pool business. I guess you could say the weather was very cooperative.”

Cain said the pool hosted many parties, club meets, swimming lessons, and open hour swims during the summer and she was very proud of her dedicated staff.

“It was a hot and busy summer, but my staff was here every day without fail,” she said. “There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes at a pool like this and they were so dedicated, from cleaning toilets, to dealing with an occasional code brown, to keeping all the kids safe, my staff was amazing.”

Hillsboro resident Amanda Ratzlaff brought her three children and two nieces to the pool on Monday, the last day open.

“They all just wanted to celebrate today,” she said. “It’s the end of summer when the pool closes and we wanted to make the most of it this last day.”

The Hillsboro Family Aquatic Center officially closed Monday, but not before Raztlaff siblings Brekyn, 8, and Kingzley, 5, got in a few last splashes. Temperatures over 100 degrees made cooling off a high priority for many and the pool was packed throughout Labor Day weekend.
