Family critically hurt in crash

Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a crash at the U.S.-56/77/K-150 intersection.

Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Danika M. Galindo, 41, Emporia, was westbound on K-150 in a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe and had stopped at the intersection but failed to yield to a 1995 Mack dump truck driven by Craig M. Whittemore, 33, Wilsey.

When the two vehicles collided, the Tahoe went through a ditch and fence, and stopped in a field on the east side of U.S.56/77. The dump truck was pulling a trailer with a backhoe. The trailer jack-knifed, and the truck was on the east shoulder heading west.

Brenda J. Galindo, 24, and Alex Galindo, 7, both of Emporia, were transported to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. The driver and Orlando Galindo, 3, also of Emporia, were airlifted to Wesley Medical Center with critical injuries.

Ambulances from Marion, Florence, and Hillsboro responded as did a Marion rescue truck.
