Festival to offer daylong events

A day’s worth of activities are planned Saturday in Peabody as the town celebrates its fifth annual Fall Festival.

The festival will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in City Park and include other activities around town.

A coloring contest will be sponsored by Vintage Bank Kansas.

Visitors can help judge a scarecrow contest sponsored by R. Phillips Inc. Registrations are due Friday at the city office. The junior class will have a booth offering temporary tattoos, face painting, a game to win prizes, popcorn, and lemonade. The class also will take orders for nuts and candy.

The Hub will serve a meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will be used for special events and operating expenses.

Peabody Historical Society will sell four packs of apple dumplings for $12 and choice of desserts by donation.

Don Skinner’s book, “Light Up The Sky,” will be sold for $27. The Society will offer photo opportunities with cutouts of the scarecrow and Dorothy.

A horseshoe tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Cost will be $20 per team. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.

Peabody Legion Auxiliary’s dog show will start at 11 a.m. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Vendor booths will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with kids inflatables and other activities for kids.

A petting farm will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Magician Dave May will be on stage at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Disc golf clinics will be offered 11 a.m. to noon and 2 to 3 p.m. Registration will cost $5.

Check-in for wiffle ball will be at noon. A washer tournament will be at 1 p.m. Cost will be $20 a team. Registration will be at 12:30 p.m. The tournament will benefit an alumni scholarship.

Dedication of new playground equipment at Hart Park will be at 2:05 p.m.

Pumpkin carving and wood or gourd birdhouse painting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Parental supervision is required for pumpkin carving. Cost will be $10.

Peabody-Burns High School band and choir will perform 2:30 to 3 p.m. Karaoke with DJ Donivan Goza will be from 3 to 5 p.m.

A pedal pull competition will be at 5:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 5 p.m.

The fun continues Sunday when Weda Skirts play at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for a Sunflower Theatre fundraiser. Tickets are $10.
