FFA earns first at district event

Hillsboro FFA chapter hosted the South Central District and ninth annual Earl Wineinger Invitational Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event Nov. 24 at Marion County Fairgrounds, Hillsboro.

More than 200 students from 18 chapters participated in the event.

Hillsboro’s “A” team, Andy Klassen, John Hein, Brandon Brown, and Jacob Fish, earned the first-place team award. Klassen won the first-place individual award, and Hein placed fourth.

“B” team members were Darren Mueller, Ethan Frantz, and Landon Herbal. Mueller placed third individually.

The Hillsboro Greenhand team placed third, with team members Aaron Klassen, Taylor Nikkel, Olivia Kliewer, and Seth Bartel. Klassen placed eighth individually.

Doyle Jost, Dale Klassen, Ronald Mueller, Donald Mueller, and Kevin Winter provided animals for the classes.

“Overall, the event ran smoothly, and the FFA members had a great day,” said Hillsboro FFA adviser Sonya Roberts.
