FFA team first in state

Will compete at national convention in October

Hillsboro High School FFA dairy cattle judging team will compete at national convention after winning the state competition.

Seniors John Hein and Andy Klassen, sophomore Darren Mueller, and freshman Aaron Klassen placed first out of 54 teams from all sizes of schools during state convention May 3-5 at Kansas State University.

They will be the first team to go to nationals from Hillsboro in several years, said HHS agriculture teacher Sonya Roberts. The 2008 environmental science team earned first in state but elected not to compete at national convention.

Mueller placed fifth individually, and Andy Klassen placed seventh.

FFA National Convention will be in October in Indianapolis, Ind.

HHS ag communications team placed third at state. Team members were senior Brandon Brown and juniors Jacob Fish, Heather Goldsby, and Briana Loewen.

Randy Hagen and Terry Hagen presented Andy Klassen with a $1,000 scholarship from Hillsboro Ford Mercury and Ford Motor Company Friday in honor of his accomplishments in FFA.
