Final candidate forum to be Sunday
The season of candidate forums is upon Marion County.
The Record will sponsor a candidate forum for the contested 4th District county commissioner seat and the 70th District state representative seat from 1:15 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Community Center.
The county Republican Party conducted a primary candidate forum attended by about 80 voters Sunday at the Marion County Lake hall.
From gubernatorial to local county commissioner races, candidates urged that citizens vote for direct election of state supreme court justices.
The bulk of the 2½- hour session was taken up by six gubernatorial candidates — or their running mates — who largely agreed, sticking to standard party positions about reducing state government, supporting local control, hedging liberal urban power, making tax and spending cuts, funding off personal liberty attacks during the COVID-era, increasing parental authority, and reforming education.
The primary election — including two ballot initiatives — will be Aug. 4.
