Fireworks to highlight vintage baseball game

Florence Labor Day will include an 1860s vintage baseball game for the second consecutive year. Planners decided at a meeting last week to add a fireworks display at the end of the game. The celebration also will feature a homemade ice cream social and watermelon seed-spitting contest.

Those wearing 1860s apparel or a 2013 Labor Day T-shirt will get free ice cream.

The game will pit the Chase County Preservationists against the Harvey Boys from Florence.
