Main Street Ministries organized turkey baskets, has ongoing renovations

Staff writer

Ebenfeld M.B. Church sponsors turkey baskets every year that are put together at the Main Street Ministries food bank in Hillsboro for families. They include basics for a Thanksgiving meal plus a meat coupon. Moss said 90 families applied for and received baskets this year.

Two women with babies and a woman facing an emergency are current residents. Two other apartments in the main building and an emergency apartment above the office are available.

Kendra Henry, who started in May, oversees the apartments and resides there with her daughters.

According to director Stephanie Moss, two other apartments are being made into one apartment that can accommodate a larger family.

Moss said the board of directors has donated their time to gut the two apartments and take out a dividing wall.

Ciara Cox oversees the food bank.

“Ciara has done a great job of organizing the food bank,” Moss said.

Moss came to the Ministries in August after working at OASIS in Florence for 10 years.

“I love it here,” she said. “Even with some frustrating days, I love it. It’s reaffirmed my OASIS experience and has become my own mission field.”
