Former Marion businessman convicted of child sex charges in California

A 66-year-old former Marion business owner now living in California will be sentenced Dec. 6 after he was convicted last week of eight counts of child sex offenses.

A jury returned a verdict of guilty Michael R. Bredemeier Oct. 30 after a 3½-day trial. Of the nine counts he was charged with, he was acquitted of one.

He was convicted of six felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon the body of a child under 14, which allegedly took place between July 31, 2013, and Jan. 4, 2017.

The Riverside County, California, jury also agreed that probation should not be granted nor any sentence be suspended on these counts because the charges involved more than one victim.

Bredemeier was also convicted of felony oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child younger than 10 that allegedly occurred between Dec. 19, 2012, and June 19, 2013.

His eighth conviction was annoying and molesting a child younger than 18. The act allegedly occurred between Jan. 5 and July 4, 2018. Annoying or molesting a child is a misdemeanor.

In 2012, Bredemeier operated a custom countertop business, Mid-America Kitchens & Baths, just north of U.S. 56 in Marion.

He said at the time he hoped to semi-retire with his sons helping him run the store.
