Kaufman named to first team
The Hutchinson News announced it’s all area basketball teams Monday and they included four from Hillsboro.
Dakota Kaufaman was the lone girls’ basketball player and found herself on the 3A first team, and all-class second team.
The junior averaged a team-high 13.6 points per game and led the Lady Trojans in rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.
Kaufman’s best game of the season came at home against Marion when she scored 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to go along with four assists.
Earlier she was named to the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital-Journal all-state teams as well.
The members of the HHS boys’ team were honored as well.
Daniel Jost and his 14.1 points per game landed him on the 3A second team.
The senior, who will play football at Tabor College next year, scored a career-high 28 points in a game this season.
Jost’s classmates Clay Shewey and David Loewen were named to the 3A honorable mention squad.
The 6-foot-6 Loewen was the Trojan’s leader in scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage, and recorded a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in the final game of his career.
Shewey was the team’s leading three-point shooter and the third Trojan to average double-figure points during the season.
The senior will stay in Hillsboro after graduation and continue his basketball career at Tabor.
