Frank Yakesch Jr.

Frank Yakesch Jr., 90, of Hillsboro and formerly of Duncan, Okla., died Monday at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro. He was born April 19, 1922, near Lilac, Texas, to Frank and Elvena (Meyer) Yakesch.

He served in the U.S. Army for more than 24 years, including during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, reaching the rank of command sergeant major. He later managed a parts store in Duncan.

He married Shirley (Brack) McWhirt on Jan. 16, 1998. They relocated to Hillsboro in 2012 to be closer to family.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, John Yakesch, Dora Walker, Dorothy Seay, and Edna Sullivan; and a stepson, Don McWhirt.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Yakesch of Hillsboro; two stepchildren, David McWhirt of Alexandria, Va., and Raelene Heitschmidt of Marion; two siblings, Evelyn Muckelrath of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ruth O’Conner of Gustine, Texas; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Bray, Okla. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Cemetery, Wilson.

Memorial funds have been established for Bray Missionary Baptist Church and Marlow Missionary Baptist Church.
