From prisoners of war to Kansas sightseeing

Tabor College’s fall Lifelong Learning series kicks off Sept. 7 with a showcase of Tabor and Hillsboro talent.

Amanda Lee, Holly Nickel, Studio 23 dancers, Jordan Roth, recent Tabor graduate Maryn Robson, Tabor junior Winter Waple, and Tabor seniors Rachel Esch and Katherine Coleman will showcase their talents during the season opener.

Other Lifelong Learning presentations planned for the season are:

  • Sept. 21 — Germans to Germans: The Prisoner of War Camp in Peabody, Kansas. Presented by Peggy Goertzen, director and archivist at the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies.
  • Oct. 5 — Longhorn Cattle Drive Through Photos, presented by Kelly and Gale Nachtigal.
  • Oct. 19 — The Golden Age of Broadway: A Musical Revue with Tabor graduate David Vogel. Vogel will perform songs that made the era unforgettable.
  • Nov. 2 — Dust and Roses: Kansas Poor Farms. Author Wes Brummer, who grew up in a family who loved to tell stories about growing up during the Depression, will talk about his first published novel, “Dust and Roses.”
  • Nov. 16 — The Orphan Trains in Kansas. Marilyn Holt, author of “Orphan Trains: Placing Out in America” and former director of publications for Kansas State Historical Society, will discuss Orphan Train riders who came to Kansas.
  • Nov. 30 — Honoring the memory of Ann Bartel, Exploring the Nooks and Crannies of Kansas. Presenters Marci Penner and WenDee Rowe will share photos and stories about their travels across the state and their new “Guidebook 2 for Explorers.” Copies of the book will be available for sale.

Lifelong Learning presentations are at 9:45 a.m. at Heritage Lobby in the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts, 400 S. Jefferson.

Tickets are $5 per session or $15 per semester. Lunch is available in the college cafeteria afterward for $4.
