FSA announces erodible land initiative

A continuous sign-up for highly erodible land started July 23 and will continue until the state target allocation of 28,000 acres is reached or the deadline Sept. 30 is reached, whichever occurs first.

The program is part of the conservation reserve program in which landowners receive annual payments to establish long-term, resource conserving cover on eligible farmland.

Producers can stop by their FSA county office to determine if they have land that qualifies for the Highly Erodible Land Initiative.

New land contracts approved during the continuous sign-up period will become effective the first day of the month following approval and are valid for 10 years.
