Trash left out for collection Monday in the 300 block of Elm St. sits on the curb because residents didn’t know the collection schedule was changed this week.

Garbage time

Holiday trash days still confusing some

Trash and recycling pickup schedules in both Marion and Hillsboro were changed for the holiday weeks, but some Marion residents didn’t get the message.

On Monday, many residents whose trash is picked up that day set their trash on the curb.

Marion adopted an altered schedule both Christmas week and New Year’s week.

The refuse schedule on the city’s website showed no trash pickup on Christmas Eve or Christmas day, but gave no indication that trash routes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were changed.

The week of Christmas, trash was picked up in the valley on Monday, on the north hill on Tuesday, and the south Hill on Wednesday.

The week of New Year, regular routes will run on Monday and Tuesday, then Thursday routes will run on Wednesday, and Friday routes will run on Thursday. No recycling will be picked up that week.

In Hillsboro, trash pickup schedules are the same as usual, but recycling schedules are changed.

For both weeks, all recycling will be picked up on Thursday.
