Gas prices rise with global tension

Staff writer

Gas prices nationwide have spiked because of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The county’s highest prices appear to be in Marion, where Ampride and Casey’s are charging $3.80 a gallon.

That’s slightly below the statewide average of $4.02, 52 cents higher than a month ago and $1.08 higher than a year ago.

According to the American Automobile Association, gas in Wichita costs $3.79 on average and gas in Topeka costs $3.73.

American Automobile Association and GasBuddy say the national average price of gas — $4.06 per gallon — is the highest it has been since July of 2008 and is five cents below the highest national average price ever recorded.

The highest current price is $5.34 in California.

The cheapest place for gas in Marion County as of Monday night was Casey’s in Hillsboro at $3.59. Hillsboro’s Dollar General was charging $3.77 and its Ampride was charging $3.79.

The next lowest price was at Agri Trails Inc. in Durham at $3.65, followed by Conoco in Florence at $3.79.
