GHS girls' basketball offense struggles in 30-18 loss

Contributing writer

The Bluebird girls’ basketball team missed all 10 3-point attempts in the opening game of the season at Inman on Friday. Goessel lost the game, 30-18.

Goessel led at the end of one quarter, 8-6, on several baskets by D’Ambra Kruger, a put back by Alex Hiebert and a jumper by Johanna Hoffman. Point guard Jessica Harvey got into foul trouble in the second quarter and the Bluebirds found it difficult to adjust to a different lineup. Goessel would only be able to muster eight points in the second half as Inman’s pressure defense allowed the Teutons numerous possessions.

“The girls played hard and the effort and desire was there,” said Head Coach Ryan Hoopes, knowing that once the starters tire, there is little experience on the bench.

Ali Buller, Samantha Jarvis, and Erin Brubaker were able to gain some experience in their first game of the season.

On top of the stat sheet for Goessel was Alex Hiebert with seven points, six rebounds, and two assists. Kruger finished with four points and three steals. Hoffman scored four points, and Harvey three .

The Goessel girls will play Tuesday and Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the Bluebird Classic at the Goessel gym. The Bluebirds will play Saturday with the time to be determined after Friday’s games
