GHS girls track do well at Hesston meet

Shianne DeFreese bettered her previous mark this season in the discus by 12 feet, sending the disc 96 feet, 3 inches for second place. Goessel participated April 12 at the Central Kansas Track League meet in Hesston with four other schools.

“I finally got under 16 seconds,” Tia Goertzen said after placing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.95 seconds.

Goertzen also won the triple jump, earned second in the 300-meter hurdles, and ran in the 4x400 relay. Jennifer Van Horn cut nearly two seconds off her 400-meter time, wining second place. She earned fourth in the javelin and also ran in the 4x400 relay.

The Bluebird girls scored a season-high 53 points to finish in third place as a team.

400-meter dash — 2. Jennifer Van Horn, 65.87; 5. Jessica Harvey, 70.46.

800 — 3. Ali Buller, 3.04.77; 4. Kara Schmucker, 3:48.18.

3200 — 2. Brittny Czarnowsky, 14:04.64.

100 hurdles — 2. Tia Goertzen, 15.95.

300 hurdles — 2. Goertzen, 51.46

Triple jump — 1. Goertzen, 32-07.

Discus — 2. DeFreese, 96-03.

Javelin — 4. Van Horn, 82-08.

Shot put — 4. DeFreese, 28-02.50.

4x400 relay — 3. Jessica Harvey, Goertzen, Buller, Van Horn, 4:48.91.
