GHS girls track team takes fifth at league meet

Sports writer

Even with two Goessel girls in the 4x800-meter relay team nursing injuries, the squad set another record in the event Friday at the Heart of America League meet, taking more than six seconds off its previous best for the year.

Isabel Tomaj, Kendra Flaming, Karina Harvey, and Aspen Frey combined for a dominating performance after a thunderstorm cooled the air.

Tomaj and Flaming stayed among the leaders in the first two legs, while Harvey was able to gain the advantage in the third.

Frey then increased the lead in the final leg.

In the final event of the evening, the Bluebirds fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay moved the team past Moundridge and Little River and into fifth place.
