GHS golfers finish second

Contributing writer

At the Minneapolis Invitational Golf Tournament on April 10, every stroke counted as the Bluebirds came home with second place. Shane Goerzen had a terrific 39 on the front nine and finished with third place individually with an 18-hole score of 84. Trey Schmidt finished 12th and Braden Unruh 14th with scores of 91 and 93 respectively. Stephan Goertzen played steady again, carding a 97. Tyler Schulz finished with a 104, and Dan Smucker came in at 113.

As teams assembled at the clubhouse, Goessel noted they had their best team score (top four players added together) so far this season. Ellsworth came in with 351; Goessel, 365; Beloit, 366; Southeast of Saline, 367; and Bennington, 368. Four strokes separated second and fifth places. In all there were eight teams competing.
