GHS golfers have busy week

The Goessel High School golf team went two directions April 12. One set of golfers earned second-place out of nine 2A and 3A teams at a tournament hosted by Minneapolis.
Shane Goerzen led the team with a fifth-place individual medal, shooting an 84 for the round. Jake Smucker finished with a 91 and ninth-place with Neal Brubaker one stroke behind for 10th. Davis Cook finished with the 12th individual place, scoring 96. Trey Schmidt and Drake Sterk ended the day with a 99 and 100, respectively.
On the same day, another six players represented Goessel at the North Newton golf course in a tournament hosted by Peabody. Braden Unruh finished with a 92 and fifth place individually. Stephen Goertzen came in with a 96, Dan Smucker 109, Josh Booth 113, Joe Campbell 118, and Tyler Schultz 120. The Bluebirds finished third out of five teams.
Goessel took two teams to the junior varsity nine-hole tournament Thursday at Herington. Tyler Schultz earned second place with a 45, Drake Sterk finished in seventh with a 48, Josh Booth took eighth with a 49, and Stephan Goertzen came in ninth with a score of 51. Joe Campbell shot a 54 and Dan Smucker finished with a 58.
The second Goessel team at the Herington meet gained experience with Austin Strunk turning in a 55, Ben Wiens scored 59, Corey Buller earned a 66, Reece Hiebert shot 71, Jake Herrel scored 74, and Garrett Woelk ended with 80.
GHS golfers will play Monday in a tournament at Pretty Prairie.
