GHS grad volunteers at sports camp

Cameron Voth of Goessel went on his fourth consecutive summer service trip as part of the Bethel College Threshers golf team this summer.

Voth, coach Gregg Dick, and two other players volunteered at Kids Across America, a Christian sports camp for inner-city youth, June 12 through 15 at Table Rock Lake in southwestern Missouri.

“Camp has been a great experience all four years I have had the privilege to go,” Voth said. “Working with the kids is great, because a lot of them have never touched a golf club, and if they have, it was at camp.

“Teaching them how to hit and then seeing their reactions when they start to get the hang of it is the best part, especially when you think about the possibility of them picking up golf because of their experience at camp.”

Team recognition

The Threshers were awarded with the President’s Special Recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America for the team’s overall academic success. The distinction goes to teams with a collective grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Two Goessel High School alumni were on the team: Voth and Zach Frey.
