Although Goessel earned no first-place finishes at the tough Heart of America League track meet Friday, the girls finished in fourth place as a team.
The Bluebirds were led in scoring by freshman Tia Goertzen leaning for second-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. She also had a season-best jump in the triple jump to gain third place.
Senior Aspen Frey ran her best time of the season in the 3200, picking up second place and finished second in the 1600 race as well. Senior Karina Harvey picked up fifth place in the 800, Brittny Czarnowsky ran her best time in the 3200 earning third place. Kendra Flaming and Jessica Harvey ran their fastest times of the season in the 400, picking up fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Flaming, Karina Harvey, Ali Buller, and Frey finished in third place in the 4x800 relay. Jennifer Van Horn, Buller, Karina Harvey, and Flaming earned another third-place medal in the 4x400 relay; and Flaming, Van Horn, Karina Harvey, and Goertzen combined for a fifth-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
Berean, Bennington, and Little River took the top three team honors with Goessel finishing ahead of Remington, El Saline, and Peabody with 67 team points.
The Bluebirds will travel to Sublette Friday for the 2A regional track meet. The top four finishers in the regional meet will advance to the state meet May 27 and 29 in Wichita.

Goessel boys take third
The Goessel Bluebird boys track team came home with third place Friday in the 12-team Heart of America League track meet in North Newton.
Junior John Berkholz finished second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash. Senior Weston Hiebert came in second with a strong finish in the 300-meter hurdles and placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.
Jared Reimer also medaled in two events with a third-place in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200. Cameron Stultz made finals in both the 200 and 100, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Laird Goertzen ran a tactical race and finished third place in the 3200. Evan Hiebert picked up fourth and fifth in the triple jump and high jump.
The relay team of Berkholz, Braden Unruh, Stultz, and Weston Hiebert ran their best times of the season in the 4x100 (second place) and 4x400 (third place) relays.
The boys team finished behind Berean and Bennington, but outpaced Inman and Little River for third place with 62 team points.
