The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team offense burst open with 20 points Thursday in the first quarter against Little River at the Burrton Tournament.
The Bluebirds then coasted to a 65-24 victory, snapping a five-game losing streak.
The Bluebirds ended up with three players in double figures in scoring as Craig Banman led all scorers with 16, Travis Fensky knocked in 13, and Austin Unruh 11.
Nikko Herman scored six points, and four players, Weston Hiebert, Aaron Reimer, Kendall Voth, and Chad Wedel, each had four points with Neal Brubaker earning three.
In the Saturday contest at Burrton, Goessel played much better than a Jan. 19, first-round loss to Pretty Prairie, and defeated Central Christian by a 72-39 score.
The Bluebirds hit seven three-pointers in the game and again ended the first quarter with 20 points.
Four players notched double figures in the balanced attack.
Unruh led all scorers with a season-high 21 points.
Travis Fensky knocked in four three-pointers and ended the night with a season-high 15 points.
Banman ended the night with 12 points and Weston Hiebert came in with 10.
Herman scored six, Aaron Reimer and Voth three, and Bryant Miller two points.
The boys will return to league play Friday at home with Little River.
The Bluebirds’ overall record is 7-5 with a league record of 0-4.
