GOESSEL: Boys' basketball

Just one basket short of picking up their first league victory of the season Friday, the Goessel High School boys’ basketball lost a heart-breaker, 51-50, at Bennington.

Although Goessel trailed most of the first half, it closed the gap in the third quarter, trailing, 44-43.

Both teams scored eight points in the fourth period with Bennington scoring its last basket in the final 10 seconds of the game for the victory.

Kendall Voth led all scorers with 14 points, Nikko Herman added 12, Austin Unruh dropped in nine, Travis Fensky knocked in eight, Craig Banman scored four, and Weston Hiebert and Chad Wedel each notched two points.

Peabody-Burns handed the Bluebirds a loss Jan. 13.

Goessel had one of its lowest scoring performances of the year in the 42-39 loss at Peabody. No stats were received on this game.

The Goessel boys will be at the Burrton Tournament this week. The Bluebirds are now 0-4 in the league and 5-4 overall.
