Goessel boys cross-country takes third

Goessel boys finished one point behind to capture third place Thursday at the Bennington meet.

Southeast of Saline dominated the race, finishing 62 points ahead of the Bluebirds.

Dawson Duerksen led the way for the Bluebirds with a ninth-place finish, followed by Jerah Schmidt in 15th and Jacob Schrag 20th — all running below the 20 minute barrier. Adrian Kastner came in 23rd, Brendon Hicks 25th and Timothy Schrag 26th. There were 77 runners in the boys race.

Boys’ results: Duerksen 18:50.49; Schmidt 19:17.83; J. Schrag 19:56.39; Kastner 20:09.05; Hicks 20:17.01; T. Schrag 20:17.85; Nate Impson 21:05.95; Brody Schroeder 21:19; Chicco Bertozzi 21:09.99; David Sawyer 21:33.11; Ben Olson 22:00.02; Jan Wolters 25:05.98.

Only four Goessel girl runners competed, not enough to qualify for team scores.

Individually, Elsie Clark earned 7th out of 43 participants, Elyse Boden crossed the finish line in 15th place, Edel Miller 30th and Porclein Unruh 34th.
