The Goessel boys’ basketball team came up short on the road against Flinthills High School by a final score of 38-35. Both teams came into the 1A Division I substate tournament with similar records.
The Bluebirds trailed at the end of the first quarter 15-10. Despite making numerous mistakes, Goessel trailed just 23-17 at halftime.
Goessel scored 12 points in the third quarter while only allowing the Mustangs 4, as the Bluebirds took a 29-27 lead. Flinthills regrouped and outscored the Bluebirds 11-6 in the final quarter for the win.
Seniors Lawton Makovec, Connor Davis, Kellen Froese, Aaron Woelk, and Lucas Hiebert donned the Bluebirds uniform for the last time. Zach Wiens led the scoring for the Bluebirds with 14 points. Makovec added 9, Hiebert 6, Davis 4 and Froese 2 points.
The Goessel boys ended the season with a record of 6-15.
