Staff writer

The Goessel boys won a lopsided basketball affair Friday at Herington, 57-21.

Goessel jumped out to 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 25 points by halftime.

The Bluebird defense held the Railers to five points the third quarter, pushing their lead to 53-19 for a running clock the fourth quarter.

Dylan Lindeman scored a game-high 28 points and Jake Hiebert and Drew Lindeman combined for 14 with seven points each.

Goessel has finished Wheat State League games, but some league schools still have league games to play next week.

The Bluebirds finished with a 4-5 record and have secured seventh place out of 10 schools in the league.

Goessel’s overall record is 7-10, which already is an improvement over the three wins from last season.

“This group is a great group of guys, they all work hard, and they cheer each other on,” coach Curtis Guhr said.

The Bluebirds host Berean Friday before concluding the regular season at home Tuesday against Canton-Galva with sub-state action beginning the following week.

Scoring summary: Dylan Lindeman, 28; Hiebert, 7; Drew Lindeman, 7; Skylar Wuest, 5; Miguel Ballesta, 4; Jacob Hagewood, 4; Jerrah Schmidt, 2.
