Goessel boys no match for Inman

The first basketball game of the season pitted second-ranked Inman against Goessel at the Bluebird gym.

Despite a furious rally down the stretch, the Teutons were simply too much for Goessel, cruising to a 68-37 win.

The game started rough with the Teutons jumping out to a 13-0 lead, forcing coach Curtis Guhr to call time-out.

Jacob Hagewood scored Goessel’s first points of the season, Drew Lindeman buried a three, and Miguel Ballesta scored on a layup to pull the Bluebirds to 17-7 to start the second quarter.

Dylan Lindeman scored from the baseline, but Inman kept up the pressure, stretching its lead to 36-19 by the break.

Inman opened up a 20-point lead at the end of the third quarter, but the Lindeman brothers kept it from being worse as they combined for 12 points.

The Bluebirds gave chase the fourth quarter, but the Teutons were too much down the stretch.

Junior Dylan Lindeman ended with 13 points, hitting 6-of-7 at the free-throw line.

In a return after missing the past two seasons with injuries, Drew Lindeman added 10 points.

Jerah Schmidt and Ballesta combined for 10 points with five a piece.

Goessel boys will play Elyria Christian on Tuesday and Central Christian on Friday in the Bluebird Classic.

Saturday’s games will be determined after the first two rounds are completed.
