Goessel boys shoot for winning record

Staff writer

Goessel boys’ basketball team finished last year with a 9-12 overall record and a 4-5 season in the Wheat State League.

Two of the league games were losses by one point each.

“We have a good group of guys who have excelled in fall sports and hope this will translate to the basketball court as well,” coach Curtis Guhr said.

Dylan Lindeman, a 6-foot-3 senior, led the team last year with 15 points a game and 6.2 rebounds a game.

Lindeman was the point guard last year, hitting from inside and outside, dishing out 2.4 assists a game. His leadership will be a valuable asset to this year’s team.

Jerah Schmidt, a 5-foot-8 senior, has a sneaky quick release on his shot around the basket, and has 3-point range on offense.

He averaged 4.0 points a game last year.

Jacob Hagewood, a 5-foot-11 senior, is a hardnosed player on defense, willing to go to the floor for loose balls.

Hagewood scored 2.6 points a game in 2018-2019.

Jake Hiebert, a 6-foot-4 junior, has a smooth glide to the hoop. Although quite slender, expect Hiebert to challenge for rebounds and steals with his quickness. Hiebert scored 4.2 points a game and had 1.5 steals a game last season.

Skyler Wuest, a 6-foot sophomore, is expected to make an impact on this year’s team.

As a freshman, he averaged 3.0 points per game and 1.5 rebounds a game.
