Goessel boys take 5th

Goessel High School athlete John Berkholz set a new meet record in the 400-meter dash April 19 at a 12-team track meet at Norwich. He circled the track in 51.62 seconds, leading the nearest competitor by 2.3 seconds. Goessel’s senior sprinter also finished second in the 100, third in the 200, and third in the long jump.
The Goertzen brothers earned points in distance events, with Laird coming in first in the 3200 and first in the 1600. Heath came in fifth in the 3200. Adam Meysing also brought home points with a fourth-place finish in the 1600.
The Bluebirds scored a season high 56 points to take fifth place at the meet. The weather was cool, but the rain held off until after the meet was over.

Girls
Although none of the Goessel High School girls picked up a first place, several tracksters finished with second and third places to earn 57 points April 19 at the 12-team meet at Norwich.
The girls 4x400 relay team just missed a first-place medal, running their fastest time of the season at 4 minutes, 43.99 seconds and still trying to get to full strength following some injuries.
Tia Goertzen earned second in the 100-meter hurdles, third in the triple jump, and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Jennifer Van Horn picked up fourth in the javelin and third in the 400-meter dash.
Goessel competed Tuesday at Hillsboro.
