Goessel boys win at Burrton

In a weather-delayed game, Goessel faced Little River on Wednesday at the Burrton Tournament.

Getting off to a slow start, the Bluebirds managed just 5 points in the first quarter, trailing 12-5. Things did not get much better in the second period as Goessel fell behind 26-13. The Bluebird offense picked up in the third quarter, but so did Little River point production and the Bluebirds slipped further behind at the break, 49-26. The non-league contest ended with the Redskins winning 60-39.

Jordan Griffin tallied a season high 19 points, with Dylan Lindeman scoring 9.

The Bluebirds lost a heart-breaker Thursday against Pretty Prairie. Goessel led at half-time 26-20. The Bluebirds hit 82 percent from the free-throw line, which kept the game tight. Pretty Prairie snatched the lead at the end of the third period 38-37. Both teams had leads in the last minute of the game. Goessel was ahead by one with 15 seconds to play, but the Bulldogs converted a layup by way of a long pass. The Bulldogs hung on to win 54-53 when a last-second Goessel shot missed the mark.

Lindeman led the Bluebirds with 19 points followed by Griffin with 18.

In Saturday’s match-up with Fairfield, Lindeman hit two 3-pointers and Jerah Schmidt added another as Goessel jumped out to a 17-9 lead, and the Bluebirds extended the lead to 30-18 at the half. Jordan Griffin scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to propel the Bluebirds to a 55-37 win.

Griffin hit 9 field goals and 8 free-throws for a season high 26 points. Lindeman followed with 17.

The Goessel boys are now 2-10 and play Moundridge at home in a non-league contest Friday.

Girls

The Bluebird girls went cold for two quarters and lost to Moundridge on Friday 45-28.

The Wildcats led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter. Goessel struggled in the second quarter, scoring just 2 points. In the third quarter the Bluebirds connected on no field goals, but hit 3 free-throws. Moundridge connected on three 3-pointers in the third period to take a commanding 39-16 lead. Goessel scored 12 points in the fourth, but the game ended with a 45-28 Bluebird loss.

Brittney Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 11 points, and Eden Hiebert added 7.

Goessel is 8-2 and 5-0 in league play. The were at the Berean Tournament on Tuesday.
