Sports writer

On a gorgeous Friday afternoon, the Goessel High School boys’ track and field team captured another team victory at home against five schools.

Goessel scored points from four runners in the 800-meter run, while three teammates brought in points in the 200m dash, and the 1600m run.

First-place finishers for the Bluebirds went to Craig Banman in the 100-, 200-, and 400m dashes, Laird Goertzen won the 3200m run, Weston Hiebert took first in 300m hurdles, and Jared Reimer won the 1600m race.

Girls score 101

The Goessel girls finished with 101 points in their own track meet.

Hesston, a 4A school, brought mostly freshmen and sophomores, and defeated the Bluebirds by five points.

Winning events for Goessel included Amy Brubaker in the long jump, Karina Harvey in the 800m run, Kendra Flaming in the 400, and Aspen Frey in the 1600.

The girls 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams won both events at an April 21 meet.
